Frida Kahlo

Le Due Frida - Frida Kahlo

"Frida Kahlo de Rivera (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954; born Magdalena Carmen Frieda[3] Kahlo y Calderón[4]) was a Mexican painter and a communist born in Coyoacán.[5] She painted "pain and passion"[6] using intense, vibrant colors. Her style "close to folk art"[7] (Primitivism, Naïve art) was influenced among others by indigenous cultures of Mexico, European Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits. Kahlo was married to Mexican muralist and communist Diego Rivera." - source: Wikipedia

One of my favourite contemporary artists. She has the spirit of independence and individuality. While women in those days were expected to be quiet and lady-like, Frida was bold, independent and intelligent.

Although her paintings are mostly self-portraits, they depict immense connections to human emotions and human nature. The colours used in these masterpieces are so intense that nobody will ever miss them. While European surrealist paintings during that era used more of dark colours, Kahlo used bright and bold colours influenced by her Mexican roots which gave her initial personal gallery an extremely interesting and unique touch.
